The Springfield Science Museum is one of five world class museums located at the Quadrangle in downtown Springfield, MA.
Before they built the new welcome center all visitors entering the Springfield Science Museum passed in front of this Foucault Pendulum. For a while it went missing but now that renovations are complete it's back in place, this time housed in a glass case. Visitors can view the pendulum at eye level or from above by looking down from the second level. You can also view the pendulum through the glass doors of the original entrance.
In 1958, the Springfield Stars Club built the Foucault Pendulum for the Science Museum. This opened to the public on June 5, 1959 and was featured in the cover story of the January 1960 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine.
