This dyke forms the first point of interest in Earthcache "Campbell’s Hole Volcanic Dykes" GC311VW looking at the dykes in this area.
At this site, you will see how a part of this dyke has stood proud of the surrounding rock. Observe how the dyke is a very distinct dark grey and contrasts with the surrounding rock.
A second dyke may be observed about 5m north of the line of this dyke and is noted by its similar colour, but lacks the length of the prime point of interest.
There are several possibilities in the formation of this dyke however it may have been a more recent geological event in nominally Permian sandstones.
