At the Quadrangle in downtown Springfield, MA are a number of artistic benches. They surround the Dr. Seuss Memorial Sculpture Gardens and provide seating for visitors to rest and admire the numerous bronze Seuss sculptures.
One bench, in particular, is designed to amuse and/or fool people. Sitting on a vacant bench are a bag of groceries, a shopping bag and somebody's brown bag lunch. Closer inspection reveals that these items are actually bronze sculptures. Sometimes, when someone who has been sitting on the bench get up and walks away, a helpful person will remind them of their belongings left behind.
Date Placed: 2002
