Ihe National Iwo Jima Memorial straddles border between Newington CT and New Britain CT. This moving memorial tells the story of the famous WWII battle for control of tiny Iwo Jima island. A replica of the monument in Arlington, VA is surrounded by granite plaques, each of which tells a piece of the story. The eternal flame burns on a ten foot pedestal to the north of the statue. The torch and granite pedestal were donated by the Connecticut Natural Gas Company.
