Located on a high slope over the Tagus river and the surrounding landscape, the site of the old castle of Santarém, also known as "Portas do Sol" (Doors of the Sun), is now a nice garden that offers spectacular views over the Tagus river and its surroundings. Part of the walls and towers of the castle are still preserved. There is no admission fee.
