What is an UPPING STONE? Imagine a young lady in her Sunday Best. He has just left church and now has to get back into the family wagon or buggy. It wouldn't be very ladylike for her to "just" climb up into the wagon, she would use the upping stone. A stair like block which the driver of the wagon would pull along side of to allow the lady to climb gracefully into the buggy.
The upping stone is not restricted to use by women. A Gentleman could also use it to gracefully get top his mount.
