The building was rebuilt between 1895 and 1896 after a fire destroyed much of the former opera house. By the 1900s, the house was a main entertainment venue for the Sacramento Valley. The rise of the movie theater and declining ticket sales close the opera house in 1913.
In the 1970s, Yolo County Historical Society, for a sum of $12,000. The building was retrofit and brought up to modern building codes.
Production take place in the summer months. The theater is also home to a has a summer youth theater camp in August of each year and a Young People's Theater Program is held.
