Daniel Wood was an early pioneer who became quite wealthy. In return he donated land from his holdings for various civic improvements, including a railroad depot and crossing.

The position of Woods Cross at the bottom of the Salt Lake basin has been both boon and bane. The rich soils deposited as sediments by ancient Lake Bonneville provide excellent land for agriculture. The low altitude of this bottomland means that there are not many places to which excess water can escape, causing frequent flooding.

This small city has wisely eschewed the rampant growth model of many of its neighbors and has attempted to retain a small-town atmosphere without problems of the big urban areas.
