The Building: -
Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center.The 78,780 square foot Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center is located on 136 acres of property the City owns at 112th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. The City chose this site because of its central location and easy accessibility.
Pool:
The aquatics area consists of two leisure pools that includes a wave function, lap swimming, raindrop, lazy river, diving board, water-slide and vortex pool.
Conditioning Center:
The weight and fitness equipment is provided for anyone 16 years and older. Those between 13 and 15 years of age must complete a youth orientation. The conditioning center is open during all general operating hours of the facility and is divided into three separate areas: Free weights, circuit machines and cardiovascular equipment.
Gymnasium:
A large hardwood floor capable of being divided into three small courts for volleyball and/or basketball or one full-court basketball.
Gymnastics Studio:
*This area is designated for permanent multi-station gymnastic equipment and floor exercise area for program use.
Racquetball Courts:
Three racquetball courts with Wallyball capability.
Community Rooms:
A large meeting/activity room with a catering kitchen, small stage, terrace with mountain view and the capability of being divided into three smaller private rooms.

The Person: Mayor/Council member Margaret Wilson Carpenter. Margaret W. Carpenter has been involved in the governing of Thornton for over 26 years (1973-1999). She helped guide Thornton's economic and community growth activity through tireless and non-partisan policies and resolutions. She was Mayor from 1980 to 1999; usually running uncontested. Her portrait hangs in the Recreation Center near the entrance.
