This three-story concrete building was constructed in 1920. Now renovated into condominium units, a plaque set into the sidewalk indicates the history of this building. It reads:
"Although the McDaniel Auto Company built this structure, they stayed for only two years. This building was better known as the Broadway Service Station, serving motorists for over a decade during the 30s and 40s."
Automobile Alley is a district on the east side of the downtown area, comprising several blocks of Broadway, with a few buildings east and west. In the early decades of the 20th Century, when the automobile became the preferred mode of transportation, this area housed numerous automobile dealerships, as well as parts and service companies. This building and another a few blocks south in the Magnolia Building, housed service stations. At the southeast corner of the building, the first and second floors are set back, forming a covered portico once used by the service station.
Address of the station: 601-605 N. Broadway Oklahoma City, OK US 73102
