Native Americans have been a part of Devil's Lake since the glaciers receded over 10,000 years ago. A group called the Effigy Mound Builders, built several mounds that can still be found at the park. IT is believed that some mounds (conical and linear shapes) were used for burials and others (animal shapes) were used for special rites and festivals.

Please be respectful when you are visiting the various mounds in the park. These are specail places, so please stay off the mounds and walk around them as you view them.
