Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital is a 186-bed facility that offers top quality medical care to the province of Aklan, and also serves as the secondary level medical facility to the small resort island of Boracay which attracts close to a million tourists each year,
The man
The hospital was renamed in 1975 to honor Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon who was instrumental in the effort to establish Aklan as a separate province from Capiz. His legislative bill in 1934 was ultimately defeated my the newly formed commonwealth government under Quezon the next year, and it wasn’t until 1954 that his dream became a reality primarily through the efforts of

Dr. Tumbokon also established Melchor Memorial School, one of two private secondary schools in Aklan.
