The Old House sits on the north side of the A428 in Harleston, a village to the north of Northampton on the way to Althorpe and Rugby. On its southern angle, high up just underneath the eaves, are two sundials.

That painted onto the south-east wall is graduated from 0400 to 1600 and tells us that "The Hour is at Hand", whilst its partner painted onto the south-west wall is tucked right up under the eaves and has limited graduations running from 1200 to 2000 and exhorts us to "Watch and Pray". The top of the painting on the south-east is slightly raised above the eaves. The gnomons appear to made of iron.

This arrangement would seem to be the ideal for obtaining sun time over an extended period in the summer when the sun rises and sets above due east/west, a single, vertically mounted dial on a south facing wall could not do this.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
