In 2005 municipal authorities of Brno city decided, thanks to initiative of Czech Confederetion of Political Prisoners and Czech Union of Fighters for Freedom, to build a monument dedicated to victims of three resistance movements in former Czechoslovakia. The monument should pernamently commemorate heroism of people, who sacrificied their lives, health or freedom in their fights against violence, despotism and tyranny during World War I, World War II and during Communist regime in 1948-1989.
The architectural competion won a design of sculptor Michal Gabriel. His project has shape of pyramid, which is suported in its corners by other three pyramids and each of the three pyramids stands again on other three ones under. Just each of the three corners represents one of the mentioned resistance movements. The sculpture is made from bronze. It was dedicated on October 17th, 2006 in front of Palace of Justice in Brno.
