Alviso was incorporated in 1852. It was a major shipping and port hub for the Santa Clara Valley. With the arrival of the railroad from San Francisco to San Jose, the usage declined. In the 1960s, the city voted to incorporate into the city of San Jose.
There are a lot of interesting buildings here. The old Tilden Grocery store is falling apart. The former train depot is now a private residence. There's a nice yellow victorian house here too.
