The NPS cancellation stamp is available at Nebraska's Smith Falls State Park Visitor Center near a distinctive 100-foot waterfall. The river is enjoyed by many canoers, kayakers and tubers each year. The Smith Falls side of the river is protected from vehicles with just a hiking trail to the falls. A footbridge across the Niobrara connects to camping and day-use areas for canoers. This wonderful place is best visited by canoe or kayak from the river but is also accessible by vehicle. The westernmost 26-mile stretch of the river is the most used by canoers, with several short sections of class I and II rapids, but by and large the river is calm, shallow and navigable by a wide range of ages and skills. Backpacker magazine has named it one of the ten best canoing rivers in the United States.
