Just east of the Edens Expressway (I-94) in the suburb of Skokie, IL, lies this 5-acre, wooded park, complete with playground, picnic tables, basketball and tennis courts, and a baseball diamond.

While only 1/3-mile off the expressway, the park is far enough away such that the traffic heard is from the nearby intersection of Dempster St and Gross Point Rd, not the bustling highway. There is substantial street parking on the side streets near the park, so if you're passing through, and the kids need a break, you can pop off the expressway easily and stop in. There's even a McDonald's further east down Dempster if you're so inclined.

The Skokie Park District site says there are portable restrooms there from April to September, but I didn't notice them during my visit.
