In downtown Seward, there is a visitor center for the Kenai Fjords National Park. This park surrounds the city of Seward, yet most of it is inaccessible by road. One exception is the Exit Glacier entrance, which is just north of the city. Access to the park is mostly by boat, either by tourist cruise services or by personal boat or sea kayaking. Thus, this visitor center provides people with information about the park, as well as an information service directing people to services/cruises, and a book store.
The cancellation station is located along a wall within the visitor center, so it is easy to walk up to the table and stamp your book.
Kenai Fjords is a beautiful park that covers mostly the mountains around Resurrection Bay and includes not only mountains and shoreline, but many glaciers, as well. People go on cruises to see these glaciers and wildlife such as sea lions, porpoises and puffins. Many of the tour boat cruises are staffed by National Park rangers, who comment on the biology, geology, and lore of the region.
See the web site for the park for specific visitor center hours and days open as it changes seasonally.
