On 5 December 2010 a Cessna 210 was attempting to land at Ogden Municipal airport. The area was blanketed with fog. The pilot of the aircraft turned towards final and clipped a powerpole, seconds later the aircraft hit several trees. The aircraft continued its descent clipping trees and impacted the ground 2100 feet short of the runway. Aircraft ended up between two occupied houses in a Roy, UT neighborhood.
I was an air traffic controller in the military for almost 26 years and I have seen my share of aircraft crashes. I was stunned there were no injuries in this. Me and a friend went to the crash site and got there just as the ambulance was leaving with the pilot, the area had been cordoned off but I was still less than a yard from the debris.
The crash site is on private property and there are no tresspassing signs posted on property. The coordinates will lead you to the north side of the T-intersection of 2075 West and 4300 South in Roy, UT. The aircraft ended up across the street between the two houses. The most noticable debris was an aircraft engine that came to rest under the eastern most tree. Police, and people that live in the area, were not permitting photography unless it was for the newspapers.
When I went back to the crash site this morning for pictures there was two disaster control vehicles at the house nearest to the crash site.
