The portion of the Lincoln Highway that runs through Woodbine contains a mile of original brick from this historic road, the longest stretch found in the state. The original brick was laid for this portion of the transcontinental US Hwy. 30 in 1921, and many of the impressive homes along the street date back to before the time. This portion of the road is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
There are several impressive sites to visit while traveling this piece of the Lincoln Highway. One of these is the Merry Brook School Museum. This 1870 one room schoolhouse is still in the business of education, this time teaching people about the history of the surrounding area. Merry Brook School was built in the 1870’s and was originally located near Woodbine’s present day airport. In 1958 the building was moved to the elementary school where it was used for a 5th grade classroom. It was moved once again in 1991, this time to a foundation in Kiwanis Park on the Lincoln Highway where it became an historical museum. The basement houses the Harrison County Genealogical Society. There is an original Lincoln Highway marker in front of the museum.
