Part of the Sub base of Datelan AAF to Yuma AAF base, Wellton Army Auxiliary #1 was a site for the training of pilots for WWI. It was one of seven satallite airfields to Yuma AAF. It conducted primary flight training & training of bomber aircrews. It was in military use from 1943 to 1950 when it was assigned as Wellton Airport. It was on sectional charts through the 1970's.
