This is one of two sections in Walnut Grove. In the 1930s the Chinese of the Sacramento delta lived in the area. Chinese from the Toi Shan county lived in Walnut Grove, while immigrants Chung Shan resided in Locke, CA (about 0.5 miles north) The Chinese set up gambling halls and Chinese restaurants in the community.
Most of the Chinese moved into the surrounding larger cities of the Central Valley after WWII. Not much Chinese influence is still in the town, except for a few building and sign pointing visitors to each district.
