The Dam is of earth and stone construction and the spillway is tunneled about .25 miles through the mountain on the South side. There are campgrounds on the lake and at the spillway outlet area. Visitors are encouraged to drive across the Dam to view the spillway and south bank. Drive below the Dam to reach the outlet area and an overlook on the south side mountain. There are signs to guide you to the Waveland Campground from which the Dam can be viewed and photographed.
