The Colonial Revival style building was constructed by the Works Progress Adminstration in 1940 (date per the cornerstone). In 1995, the facility was converted for use by the Sevier County Heritage Museum.

John M. Carmody was listed on the cornerstone as the Federal Works Administrator, who served in this position during 1939-41. His correspondence is part of the Federal Record stored in the National Archives. link
