The sign reads:

Fredrick Joseph "Fritz" Friebel
Florida's Record Bass

In May of 1923, about 12 miles northwest of San Antonio, FLA., Fredrick Joseph "Fritz" Friebel (1893-1965) landed a 20 pound, 2 ounce largemouth bass from Big Fish Lake. The bass, taken on a Creek Chub Straight Pikie Minnow, was recognized as the world record for the species until June 2, 1932, when the late George W. Perry caught a 22 pound, 4 ounce bass in Montgomery Lake, Telfair County, Georgia. Perry's record still stands. In 1984, The Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission recognized Friebel's bass as the state record for the species.
