This museum which opened with collections in 1936 in a different location, was renamed the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in 1992. It is named after Fred Jones, Jr. who died in a plane crash his senior year at OU.
Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is located on the far northwest side of campus, on the corner of Boyd St. and Elm. Several sculptures are on the grounds of the north, west, and south sides of the buildings.
The following are not allowed in the museum: flash photography, food and drink, large purses and backpacks, umbrellas, diaper bags, tripods, and PENS. Pencils are permitted.
The staff at the museum is happy to answer any questions visitors have. In addition, there are classes held for families and young children, to introduce them to the world of art. The facility offers programs for all ages.
