This is a one of a kind diner!
It is nearly impossible to dine at Emmett’s and Ethel’s in Lehi without busting out a superlative at some point during the meal, most likely: “this hot dog is way better than (insert any hot dog joint)” or “these are the best fish ‘n chips ever!”
Comparisons aside, Emmett’s and Ethel’s makes pretty darn good food, and they aren’t ashamed to admit it. As co-owner Chuck said when presenting us with one of the greasy spoon’s beloved items, Halibut and Chips, “Everything on that plate—except for the lemon—we made.”
The wonderful thing about Emmett’s and Ethel’s is that you can tell—in the best possible way—that Chuck was right: the fresh, homemade touch brings out the best in the food. The hand-dipped onion rings really do blossom, the cheese fries melt in your mouth like “miniature grilled cheese sandwiches,” and the cheese-wrapped bacon dog’s layers of flavors blend together in perfect harmony.
Boasting an epic menu, Emmett’s and Ethel’s offers such delicacies as pastrami and slaw dogs, the Fire Station 31-14 burger with (homemade) fiery wing sauce, a Tangy Bacon Ranch burger, the Grilled Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich, the Hawaiian Chicken Teriyaki, a turkey burger, a Rueben sandwich, or the ever classic BLT. Of course, you won’t want to miss out on the sides either, especially when they consist of cheese or chili fries, scones with honey butter, or onion rings.
Be careful, though, because after finishing a not-too-greasy Rodeo burger with cheese fries or the “exquisite” Halibut and Chips, your stomach isn’t quite large enough to finish a shake. And really, let’s be honest, the best part about Emmett’s and Ethel’s is the dessert.
Dessert seems like a such an inadequate term to encompass the options with which you are provided: shakes, slushies, cream pie shakes, sundaes, floats, freezes… basically, if it contains ice cream, Emmett’s and Ethel’s can probably make it better than you’ve ever had it before.
We stretched our stomachs with the Chocolate Caramel Peanut Butter Cup and Grasshopper shakes, and the very sight of these enormous creations made us second-guess ourselves. As the management claims, these shakes are, literally and figuratively, “over the top.”
In other words, if you do it right, you will not leave Emmett’s and Ethel’s hungry. In fact, if you’re like us, your one regret will be: “Why didn’t we save room for Peach Bomb sundae!?”
