The sign here is on the opposite side of the road to the pub in the front garden of a house.
'Maidenhead' normally refers to an easy landing place in nautical terms. Although there is something of a stream (and cress beds) nearby, it is unlikely that this is where this name comes from.
The style of the costume in this sign is rather Elizabethan despite the appearance of the face.
