It is known that "the Bull" may refer to The Papal Bull, the seal used to authenticate documents authorised by the head of the Roman Catholic church. After Henry VIII declared him to be the head of the church and established The Church of England, he incorporated a bull into his coat of arms. Therefore, "The Bull" could also be a declaration of loyalty to either side of that particular spat.
