Stagwell
Patented to Thomas Stagwell 1645. Acquired by Richard Bennett 1706, one of the largest land owners in Maryland. His descendent Judge Richard Bennett Carmichael built the house about 1805. He presided over the Convention of 1867, for a new Constitution for the State of Maryland.
State Roads Commission
Note: Under current research by Washington College: Judge Carmichael couldn't have built Stagwell---he was born in 1807. The Judge was born 2 years after Stagwell was built.Stagwell was probably built by the Judge's grandfather, Richard Bennett Carmichael (1752-1824)."
