The Boston and Maine Railway Passenger Depot was built in 1937 and was the fourth railroad depot that this site. All the earlier editions had been destroyed by fire. The previous one was destroyed in 1911, in the years between several buildings served as a depot including the Central Vermont baggage facility. When that building burned in 1935 the Boston and Maine Railway and the Central Vermont Railroad decided jointly that a proper depot should be built. The present depot was designed by jointly by chief engineers for both railroads in a Colonial Revival style. The brick building has recently been renovated to serve as an Amtrak depot and also Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center.
