The OG&E Building was added to the Register in 1980. Designed by Layton, Hicks & Forsyth, Oklahoma's most popular architects of the day, this building was originally constructed as a six-story building in 1927-1928, with a basement constructed to support an additional six floors at a later date. The company did construct six additional floors in 1954. The building is in the Late Gothic Revival style. It was built as headquarters for this utility company which, although incorporated in 1902, began operations right after the Land Run of 1889 and was known then as Oklahoma Ditch and Water Power Company. The company was positioned to have a significant influence on the growth and expansion of the new State.
On the ground level, large limestone arches decorate the exposed north and east elevations. Above these arches is cut-stone ornamentation of torches, medallions and small arches. The upper floors continue with Bedford limestone veneer from Indiana. The base of each column on the ground floor is clad in polished granite from Minnesota. Windows on the first six floors are set individually, three to each bay on each floor. Floors seven through twelve have paired windows.
The building continues to house the headquarters of Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company.
