Trailhead is located between Big Stone Gap and Appalachia, Virginia. Limited parking on shoulder for couple vehicles on each side of the bridge. Surpised that the trailhead sign does not have the trail name anywhere.

From here to High Butte overlook is vigorous 8-mile roundtrip taking around seven hours. The trail begins with a steep set of stone stairs assembled by youth conservation corps in the 1970s. The path crossed Roaring Branch stream several times with rock hopping or wading required. After a couple of miles, the trail heads up the ridge line until reaching a sandstone outcropping known as High Butte with excellent overlooking views down into the Powell Valley.

Nice series of geocaches along the trail to give breaks.
