The Westside WWTP is a conventional activated sludge treatment plant. Influent wastewater flows to the WWTP by gravity via a 66-inch diameter influent sewer. Preliminary mechanical screening, aerated grit removal, primary clarification, aeration, secondary clarification, and chlorine disinfection are the sequential treatment processes used at the Westside WWTP. After mechanical screening, the wastewater flows into the influent wetwell. It is then pumped to the aerated grit removal building where it then flows by gravity throughout the remaining treatment processes.
How are biosolids (sludge) managed?: Digested sludge is pumped via two (2) sludge transfer pumps to the Eastside WWTP for dewatering with four (4) belt filter presses and trucked to an on-site storage facility. Land application of the dewatered sludge is the final step of the sludge handlin
What technology is used for disinfection prior to dicharge of treated water?: disinfected with chlorine in the chlorine contact tank and dechlorinated prior to its discharge to the Ohio River.
