Baranec is third highest peak of Western Tatras aside from main crest of the mountains. It's towering between and above Ziarska and Jamnicka valleys with elevation of 2,184 metres (7,165 feet). The peak is offering great panoramic views especially over Liptov region to whole Low Tatras and to numerours peak of Western and High Tatras.
The summit is accessible by marked hiking trails from both valleys and from the foot of the mountain. Ascent is steep and long, but easy without difficult technical climbing parts. Trails are open in winter as well, therefore anyone can enjoy attractive winter hike on skis or snowshoes. Be sure to take crampons with you, surface is often very icy!
