The marker describes the history of the Jones House, built about 1809 for local businessman, John Jones. After the capture of New Bern by Union forces in March of 1862, the Jones House was commandeered for use as a jail for Confederate sympathizers and spies. Emeline Pigott is the spy featured on the marker. The house and marker are located at 231 Eden St. near Tryon Palace.
