Towering over the Bruguier Log Cabin in Riverside Park, stands an impressive oak tree. These spreading branches provide more than shade, however, it offers a story to share. Though never verified, the legend is told that explorers Lewis and Clark met with the local native people under the Council Oak Tree that grew on this site. When the original tree was chopped down in the 1970’s, the current tree was planted to replace it. It remains an historic tree for the people of Sioux City and those who come to visit it.
