CEDAR GROVE CEMETERY, NE. corner Queen and George Sts., was opened in 1800 by Episcopalians and turned over to the city in 1854. At the Queen Street entrance is the Weeping Arch, so named because its highly absorbent coquina rock retains moisture that drips like tears. Some believe that the touch of a drop marks one as the next to pass in a hearse.
Located at 701 George St, Cedar Grove Cemetery is the oldest of the five municipally owned cemeteries in New Bern. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, Cedar Grove remains an active cemetery.
