Small, but beautiful and architectonically valuable Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas (Kostel Sv. Václava) is only Orthodox church in town of churches and seat of Catholic diocese - Litomerice.
The Church of St. Wenceslas, orciginally Catholic, is firstly mentioned here in the year 1363, but that Gothic structure was destroyed during the Thirty Years War. The new Baroque church was built at the town's expense in 1714-1717 to show appreciation for the retreat of the plague epidemy. The church is not monumental, but in the light of architectural beauty and purity of radical Baroque style unique, it is a masterpiece of Litomerice "crown" baroque architect Octavio Broggio. The sculptures decorating the church's facade are work of Franz Tollinger. On the front you can see statue of St. Wenceslas, Czech prince and patron saint of the Czech lands. The church has been used by the Orthodox Church since 1945. The church was recently (1993-1994) reconstructed according to a design by architect Jarmila Antošová.
