An ornate octagonal war memorial to servicemen of the county of York.

On each side of this of this ocatagonal memorial was a statue representing different services, including nursing. In 1961 the memorial was struck by lightning which damaged one of the statues. That one was then removed.
The plaque in front of the memorial has the following inscription.
REMEMBER THOSE LOYAL
GALLANT SOLDIERS AND SAILORS
OF THIS COUNTY OF YORK WHO
FELL FIGHTING FOR THEIR COUNTRY'S
HONOUR IN SOUTH AFRICA 1899 TO
1902 AND WHOSE NAMES ARE
INSCRIBED ON THIS CROSS ERECTED BY
THEIR FELLOW YORKSHIREMEN
A.D. 1905
It stands in Duncombe Place near to York Minster.
