Here there is a unique twist on a popular pub name and sign. This is the Uffington White Horse (not a local feature), rearing up on its hind legs. One side of the sign portrays it by day and the other at night. Just to the right of the door is another black horse only about 8" long and made from a few brush strokes.

As a pub name, The Black Horse has been around since the 14th Century and was probably adopted simply because it was an easily recognised symbol.
