But the local reference leaves a little mystery to fill in with the imagination.

Above Hexton, in Barton Hills is a megalithic hill fort, Ravensburgh Castle and nearby, Fairy Hole too where Burwell Spring rises before going underground and supplying the pump (WMAW0G) just up the road from the pub.

It seems likely that the hill fort was named this way because there were ravens nearby. Ravensburgh - City of the Ravens?

There are two signs here, a traditional swinging sign on a post and the featured one here which is carved into three boards and mounted onto the front of the pub over the door. This one is the more attractive.
