Lisbon was the first city in the world to design and install a monument in the public space evocative of the victims of this attack. This gesture of solidarity was so appreciated by the U.S.A. that CNN did an exclusive story about the monument.
Augusto Cid, the famous Portuguese cartoonist conceived this work inspired by the evocative ruins of the Twin Towers, which is certainly one of the most representative images of the event that reveals the brutal destruction of one of the tallest buildings in history. The sculpture develops vertically through the surface laced a formal grammar that also brings us to a tree structure. Black granite base part accentuates the drama of the event and suggests the darkness of Ground Zero.
This commemorative monument is situated next to a building at the intersection of Av. de Roma and Av. dos E.U.A., in Lisbon.
