Welcome to Piper Down, where you can enjoy a true Olde World Pub experience. Service here is as important to the staff as it is to the customers. There is a sense of visiting a friend's home when you step into Piper Down. Enjoy the smoothest, freshest pint Salt Lake City has to offer, or sip one of our fine Irish Whiskeys. But that is just the beginning, sit back, relax, and allow our music to move you.

Piper Down is pleased to offer you even more comfort with our heated, cooled and covered patio. You can now sit back, relax, and have a drink while enjoying the beautiful Utah weather.

David and Shelli were first inspired to open a Pub while Honeymooning in Temple Bar District of Dublin, Ireland. After much effort they finally found a space that would make their dream a reality. Dave and Shelli bought the building at 1492 South State in Salt Lake City in September of 2002 following preliminary approval from the City to transform the vacant Constable's office into "The Temple Bar an Olde World Pub". What followed was 14 public hearings, appeals and endless red tape, mostly due to the misconception that the name was meant to slight the LDS Church. To avoid further delays, they changed the name to "Piper Down an Olde World Pub". Their hands were still tied until they finally won their permit to begin work in January 2003.

Their troubles were far from over. A local resident fought every part of the building process, appealing every approval they received from the city. As the final insult, the City scheduled their final appeal on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2003. This meant they would have to wait an entire year for their first St. Paddy's Day in their new Pub. They won that frivolous appeal as easily as all the others. Lastly, they sailed through the State hearing which granted their liquor license immediately, effective March 25th, 2003. This was Piper's opening night!

Six years after winning their right to start building Piper, they received their permit to start building a 1200 square foot addition. They built a beautiful Tudor style bar, dining room, and a comfortable patio. They named it... "Temple Bar".

Dave and Shelli would like to thank all of their friends and family who helped get their dream of an Irish Pub off the ground. Some of you were here with Dave swinging hammers, others attended public hearings and others just drank a lot of Guinness. They thank you all! Cheers, Piper Down.
