Blazon (heraldic description): These are the arms of the University of Toronto. They feature a beaver, and the crown of George IV, under whose Royal Charter the university was established. The crest is an oak tree, representing strength and steady growth- the acorns also promise new life. The motto reads, "As a tree with the passage of time" (ie, growth), and comes from the Odes of Horace, Book I, No 12. These arms were granted in 1917.
