Grundy County was the first county in Iowa to start the painted barn quilt project, a rural art form that has caught on to create more than 60 unique quilts. The idea started in 2003 to lure tourists into their area. Alliant Energy has agreed to mount them at no cost to the owner. It is not unusual to see bus tours or private motorists slowing down or stopping at one of these colorful farms.
This simple green and yellow pattern brightens up the dark brick barn at this nicely kept farm. It is # 40 on the quilt tour map and is found on F Avenue just north of Wellsburg.
