The Coon Dog Cemetery was started in 1937 when Key Underwood buried his dog Troop. There are about 185 grave markers that range from wooden boards to engraved marble. Three requirements must be met to qualify for burial in this cemetery; the dog must be an authentic coon dog, a witness must declare the dog to be a coon dog and a member of the local coonhunter's organization must declare the dog to be a coon dog. These requirements are from the brochure for the cemetery. Many of the dogs buried in the cemetery are world champions in their sport. It is a shame that the carved marker of two dogs at a tree has to be protected by a six foot chain link fence, 3 strands of barbed wire and a coil of razor ribbon.
