The Church of Saint John the Evangelist was founded in 1863. It was the first Catholic Church in the city Rochester.
The construction of this current building was started in 1955 and completed in 1957. It was designed by Edward F. Wirtz of New Ulm, Minnesota. It was designed to be simple yet impressive and dignified.
From 1999 to 2002 the church was renovated to accommodate the needs of the growing congregation.
