A plaque at the San Diego Wild Animal Park remembers those who saved the Park during the huge 1993 fires.

On October 27, 1993, a fire broke out in Laguna Beach, CA and burned over 300 squre miles spreading over 6 California counties in 10 days.
The fire reached Escondido (where the Wild Animal Park is located) and points south as well. Hundreds of homes were destroyed...but luckily no one was killed. Sixty-seven firefighters were injured however.
This plaque is located at the entrance to the Wld Animal park and reads:
"THIS PLAQUE IS DEDICATED TO
THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE
AGENICES
AND ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY
EMPLOYEES
WHOSE GALLANT EFFORTS SAVED
THE WILD ANIMAL PARK
FROM THE OCTOBER 27, 1993 WILDFIRE"
