Another important contribution to German and European History, right here in Swabia!
There's not much left of the castle to see except some foundations. But its situation on the top of a prominent hill affords a great view of the surrounding countryside.
Here's a list of the Hohenstaufen kings/emperors.
Conrad III, king 1138-1152
Frederick I Barbarossa, king 1152-1190, Emperor after 1155
Henry VI, king 1190-1197, Emperor after 1191
Philip of Swabia, king 1198-1208
Frederick II, king 1208-1250, Emperor after 1220
Henry (VII), king 1220 - 1235 (under his father Frederick II)
Conrad IV, king 1237-1254 (until 1250 under his father Frederick II)
Another fun fact : It appears the Hohenstaufens had another castle close to Waiblingen (just outside of Stuttgart). A struggle between the Hohenstaufens and the Saxon (Hannoverian) dukes spilled over into Italy where the name "Waiblingen" was transformed into "Ghibelline". The Saxon "Welf" faction, whose name was transformed to "Guelph", and who were the ancestors of King George the III of Britain, the same against whom the American colonists rebelled, also were at the origin of the name of the Canadian city of Guelph, Ontario. Isn't it a small world?
